Overhead crane is extremely useful and essential in broad industrial situations and various types of operations. Overhead cranes might impose a high degree of hazards, however, they can be safely used if the appropriate precautions and working procedures are adopted and practiced.

Through this course, trainees will be taught about the whole aspects of overhead crane operations, including the correct way to maneuver, handle, and maintain the units.

Overhead crane training courses will help improve a participant’s attitude towards the job, and open up their sight to the risks involved if the person handling the crane has no knowledge and history of training. The course is designed to ensure that all information learned is retained and gives a sense of accomplishment to participants.

Training Contents

The training should cover but not be limited to the topics below:

  1. Introduction to the various components of an overhead crane, such as bridge, hoist, trolley, controls, and safety devices.
  2. Understanding the differences in crane configurations, such as single girder, double girder, and underhung cranes.
  3. Explanation of safety protocols, including personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and safe work practices.
  4. Guidance on conducting pre-operation checks, such as inspecting the crane for any visible defects, verifying load capacity, and checking controls.
  5. Instruction on proper operation techniques, such as starting, stopping, lifting, lowering, and traversing motions.
  6. Understanding load handling principles, including proper load attachment, weight distribution, and rigging techniques.
  7. Importance of effective communication between the crane operator and signal persons or other personnel on the worksite.
