Working in Confined Space Awareness Training
Confined space training is a specialized program designed to educate workers about the risks, hazards, and safety procedures associated with working in confined spaces.
A confined space is defined as an enclosed or partially enclosed area that has limited means of entry and exit and is not designed for continuous occupancy.
Working in a confined space can expose a person to a very risky situation that can cause diseases and injury which leads to an accident and death. Statistics have shown many fatalities involving workers working in a confined space such as working in a silo, storage tank, pressure vessel or tank, sewer system or communication system, trenches, and others.
In most cases, the cause of death is due to inhaling of toxic gases or oxygen deficiency. The government has introduced the Industry Code of Practice for Safe Working in a Confined Space, 2010 as a measure to reduce the incidents involving confined space work activities.
Examples of confined spaces include tanks, silos, vaults, pipelines, sewers, and storage bins. The training aims to provide participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to work safely in such environments.
