Effectiveness Of Safety and Health Committee Training

HRDCorp Training Programme No. : 10001150784

The Occupational Safety and Health (Safety and Health Committee) Regulations 1996 were introduced to ensure that employers establish safety and health committees at the workplace. The regulations mandate that workplaces with 40 or more employees or those that carry out high-risk activities must have a safety and health committee. The committee should be made up of an equal number of employer and employee representatives, and they must be appointed by the employer or elected by employees.

The main role of the safety and health committee is to identify potential hazards and assess risks in the workplace. They also monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of measures taken to control these hazards and make recommendations to the employer on how to improve the safety and health of the workplace.

The regulations also require the safety and health committee to conduct regular inspections of the workplace, investigate accidents and incidents, and advise the employer on the necessary corrective action. The committee is also responsible for promoting awareness of OSH issues among employees and advising them on safe work practices.

Safety and Health Committee should be established to increase and maintain the interest of employees in health and safety issues. The committee is also primarily responsible for the prevention of workplace accidents.

Through this course, participants will be trained on how to develop an effective committee so that their work will be compliant with Malaysia’s health and safety requirements. Training included free discussion of health and safety problems and possible solutions.
